I also do not understand how someone could hold up a secondary identity like that for so long! what! that's awful, and terrible, and it so completely reasonable to be upset and angry about people lying to you like that!
like, the best-case scenario I can think of for "why do that?" is someone having a headmate/alter and giving them a whole separate account/online identity, and like... that seems a bit extreme and also not great to do that and not tell you eventually after you'd gotten close.
